Happy New Year, readers! I am back after the holiday break, and it was a long break, so I’ll just jump into the prelude to the essay, which is posted as PDFs below.
This next installment from my REX IN THE CITY series was commissioned for BARK’s anthology HOWL, which was published by Crown in 2007. I don’t consider myself a humor writer—even though I have one awards for being a humor writer. I feel that I am one of those people who can be accidentally funny because my view of the world could be a bit skewed. I do remember that when I wrote this piece I was conciously trying to be funny, per my editor’s request, and that can sort of writerly effort can backfire sometimes. But I won’t judge this old piece too harshly :)
I am sure all the Crazy Dog Ladies can relate to something in this short piece.
The HOWL anthology featured such dog-loving authors as #MerrillMarkoe #PamHouston #Margaret Cho #Alice Elliot Dark #BonnieJoCampbell #MelissaHolbrookPierson #AbigalThomas, #leeharrington and many more.
This 17th installment of the REX AND THE CITY/REX IN THE CITY series—“Crazy Dog Lady” originally appeared in Bark magazine, Volume 31, Summer 2005, Copyright © Lee Harrington (writing as Lee Forgotson and E. M. Harrington). Illustrations copyright Bark and the credited artists.
